East Liverpool group voices concerns about a waste incinerator

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -

At a public hearing session hosted by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, community members questioned the safety of Heritage Thermal Services.

Neighbors were concerned about a government report that showed high pollution levels, a lawsuit from last year, and the company's location.

The company and the EPA said that they have done everything according to the book.

"Since our operation started 25 years ago, we have a solid record in regards to safe operation, meeting regulations, and a good neighbor in the community I have no need to worry about our permits being renewed," said Chris Pherson, President of Heritage Thermal Services.

Residents still weren't satisfied.

"To be blunt, I would like to see the EPA enforce regulations, we would be happy with that,"  Alonzo Spencer, President of Save our Country, Inc.

Comments from the community can still be submitted by email to the Ohio EPA until August 18th.
