POLAND TWP., Ohio -

Police may be getting closer to finding out who stole cash and checks given to a Poland pastor as retirement gifts.

Pastor Robert C. Reese, Jr. originally told Poland Township Police that members of his congregation gave him cash and a $500 check when he retired as pastor of the New Life Assembly of God on East Western Reserve Road.

Soon after his June 6 retirement party, Reese reported that the cash and the check were missing.

Police took names of those who attended the party and continued to investigate.

The stolen check turned up at in an ATM at a PNC branch in Boardman with a forged signature.

Police are talking to the people who went to the drive-thru and deposited the check, but all are denying any wrongdoing.

No one had been charged as of Friday, but the investigation continues.
