Struthers police and OSP conducting OVI checkpoint along Route 170

Posted: Updated:
STRUTHERS, Ohio -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Struthers police have announced the time and location of tonight's planned OVI checkpoint.

The patrol says the checkpoint will be conducted along State Route 170 starting at 8:30 pm Saturday until 1:30 am Sunday.

In addition, police and the patrol will conduct saturation patrols in the area.

In 1990 the U.S. Supreme court ruled that holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.

In their ruling, the justices did not spell out what they considered to be adequate notification.

That same year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published recommended procedures for OVI checkpoints which included notifying the media of the planned roadblocks.
