Muscle Connection H.S. Football Preview: East Liverpool Potters

Posted: Updated:

The East Liverpool football program is already off to a good start with a big increase in players out this season.

The Potters only have seven seniors on the team, but a solid group of underclassman is looking to make a big impact.

"The younger kids are finally starting to realize exactly the schemes offensively and defensively and what we'd like to accomplish," said Josh Ludwig, East Liverpool football coach.

The Potters have six starters back on offense and will look to the skill positions to lead the way.

"In the backfield, you're looking at kids like Derek Carter, he'll be a sophomore. He could be a big time tailback for us. He's got all the footwork and all the speed. Levi Turner will be a key guy.  Then Peyton Adkins and Michael Loy are gonna get some carries. Lane Kopras, who's our mic linebacker on defense, he's gonna play a lot of full back for us" said Ludwig.

Also looking to make some noise are the wide receivers.  "Noah Wheaton, Troy Croskey, then also Nick Woodyard. Those are some guys that you need to look out for," said Ludwig.

Defensively, six starters return.

"We have at the safety position Peyton Adkins. Adkins played really well for us at safety last year in the run game and the pass game. At linebacker, Michael Loy. He had 151 tackles last year. He'll be a senior leader for us. He's definitely the captain of our defense. He gets to the football very well. Up front, Jalen Moman. He's a junior and a very good interior defensive linemen. Everyone else understands scheme and schematic. So even if they haven't been on the field a ton on Friday nights, they've played a lot of football," Ludwig said.
