A nearly nine-hour standoff that shut down two major highways in Berlin Township ended peacefully on Monday.

Mahoning County Sheriff's deputies tell 21 News that Troy Pratt surrendered shortly after 9 am after holding law enforcement officials at bay at a home on South Pricetown Road since just after midnight.

Deputies were called after Pratt’s sister told a dispatcher that her brother was in the house and was armed. She said that Pratt was threatening to take his own life.

The Mahoning County Critical Response Team was called out, as well as State Troopers and police and fire departments from surrounding communities.

Deputies evacuated a home across the street as well as a woman who was living in the home, which is a multi-tenant residence.

The woman used the light from her cell phone to enable deputies to locate her in the home.

After hours of negotiating Pratt surrendered.  He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities are working to determine what if any charges will be filed.

Routes 224 and 534, which were shut down from just after 4 am, were open to traffic again at around 10 am.
