NEW CASTLE, Pa. -

A New Castle man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a Pennsylvania State Trooper.

Reports say PSP was called to Union Township tavern for a man causing a disturbance.

The man, 52-year-old Mark Alan Reno, left the tavern prior to police arriving at the scene.

PSP says the responding trooper went to Reno's home, where Reno allegedly became agitated when he was questioned and began to punch, strike and kick the trooper.

Reports say at one point Reno asked a friend at the home to get him a handgun.

Reno is facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer and terroristic threats.

He is being held in Lawrence County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
