Raiders and Blue Devils square off in "Battle of Big Guns"

Posted: Updated:

The Western Reserve football team starts the season with six home games.  Tomorrow's match-up against South Range may be their toughest.

"South Range is a tremendous team. It's one of their better teams that I've seen in a long time," said Blue Devils Coach Andy Hake. "They have a great offense and a great quarterback in Aniello Buzzacco. He's one of the toughest guys I've seen in high school football."

The Blue Devils aren't too shabby themselves. Raider Coach Dan Yeagley said they come to play every game. "It starts with Coach Hake. His emotions come out on the field and that of his players. They always play hard for him," Yeagley said.

The Raiders have won two of the last three games and Hake hopes playing at home helps. "We're gunned up and we're going to use it as a weapon. But obviously, it's coming down to our 11 against their 11," Hake said.

Raider lineman Levi Taylor feels physicality will play a major role and the team with more "heart" will come out the winner.

Players from both teams know it's only game two, but this game means a lot. " We're excited and we know it's going to be a tough game, but we think we're in a good position," Taylor said.

Blue Devils quarterback Dom Velasquez knows his club will be challenged. "They have three really good players in Buzzacco, Peyton Remish and Mathias Combs. But the rest of their team is equally as good and we're going to have our hands full," Velasquez said.

"They're a darn good team and we're a darn good team, so we're going to get after them and it's going to be a great one," Hake said.

Kickoff Friday night is at 7:00 pm
