'Execution-type' shooting kills Philadelphia man in daylight

Posted: Updated:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say a man has been killed in a broad daylight, execution-type shooting on a street with children nearby.

Police didn't immediately release the name of the man shot about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They say the 25-year-old man had just bought a water ice when another man came up and fire seven shots at close range, four of which hit the victim in the shoulders and back.

Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says a motive isn't known but "this clearly appears to be an execution-type homicide."

The man was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m.

Police say the shooter left in a gray or burgundy van.

Nobody else was hurt in the shooting.
