Youngstown man charged after shooting dog

Posted: Updated:

Youngstown Police have charged an East Side man accused of shooting a dog while he was walking his own dogs.

William Slanina, 65, told officers he was walking his Bishon and Yorkie on Early Road Tuesday afternoon when a King Corso charged them.

Slanina says he fired at the dog four times before one of the shots struck the dog.

He tells officers that the dog was on his property when he fired the gun.

The owner of the King Corso told police that his dog had been running loose, but returned to his front yard before it was shot.

According to the police report, the dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment of a shoulder wound.

Slanina has been charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.

The dog warden's office has not had a report on the wounded dog's condition.
