Dozens sleep outside in Columbiana to raise homelessness awareness

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIANA, Ohio -

More than 200 people in Columbiana County are experiencing a night of homelessness.

Students, parents, and staff of Heartland Christian School are spending the night outside to raise money for the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

They will be sleeping on the schools's playground and parking lot. They are calling this event Mission 125.

Participants were asked to raise $125 to celebrate the 125 years of service that the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley has provided to the community.

A soup, bread, and water dinner was served to all of the participants.

Organizers say they are hoping this helps the Rescue Mission with their goal of constructing a new building.
