CANFIELD, Ohio -

More than 500 people got sick aboard two Royal Caribbean cruises.

The passengers contracted the highly contagious "norovirus." It is a stomach- related illness.

Two people from the Valley were aboard the Independence of the Seas ship that departed on Dec. 11th from Florida.

Chris Easton of Canfield and his ex- wife set sail for a vacation that turned into days spent in the medical center.

"It just got worse and worse and worse," stated Easton.  "And I have a pre- existing condition, Crohn's Disease, which causes autoimmune disorder and the medications I take make it even worse. So I got dehydrated, I couldn't lift my own body weight."

He said before he contracted the virus, they noticed people on the ship were getting sick.

"Just imagine the worst flu you had, then double it. It was just awful."
