YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Buckeye Health Plan is making sure families do not go hungry this Christmas.

The organization distributed 130 hams and 195 turkeys to 10 local community-based agencies through its Operation Feed the Hungry program on Thursday.

The program was launched in 2010.

The organization has since distributed a total of 4,587 hams and turkeys to 126 agencies statewide.

"We want to raise our community and improve the quality of health of the community one life at a time, and hopefully this will help get us started," said Fred Cameron from Buckeye Health Plan.

The ten agencies that picked up the donations are: Step into the Future, Meridian HealthCare, Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Program, United Methodist Community Center, Arlington Heights Recreation Center, Niles Community Services, East Side Crime Watch Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church and Spanish Evangelical Church.

Spanish Evangelical Church on Keystone Avenue donated its space to use as the pick up center.
