Cruze sales fall in 2017

DETROIT -

A stronger than anticipated December for General Motors didn't help sales of the Lordstown made Chevy Cruze for the month or the year.

According to numbers released Wednesday, sales of the small car fell 22.6% last month, compared to December 2016.

Sales for the entire year of 2017 were also down; falling 2.2% compared to the previous year.

Overall, GM sales of all vehicles were up 2 percent for the year, according to the automaker.

GM says it set new annual sales records for pickup and crossover deliveries and electric vehicles.

An increased customer preference for crossovers and trucks was the reason GM gave for cutting the third production shift at the Lordstown Assembly Complex last January.
