City leaders talk about strengthening fight against opioids in Warren

WARREN, Ohio -

Warren city Leaders met on Monday night to discuss ways to strengthen their fight against the opioid epidemic.

Judge Thomas Gysegem is asking city council to find the money in their budget to expand municipal court services.

He says he wants to begin using more 'medical assistance treatment.' He also wants to hire a coordinator for the job.

Gysegem says this would complement the drug court that's already put in place on the common pleas level for felons.

Gysegem went on to say, "At the municipal level, we are getting them right off the streets and we have the opportunity to intervene earlier."

A counseling service who shared their experiences with Warren city leaders says they've worked in the greater Cleveland area and have had a 60 percent success rate.
