Derek Steyer is an award-winning co-anchor of 21 News at 6 P.M. and 11  P.M. and is also the Assistant News Director.

Derek has 20 years of experience in the television business, starting out as the weekend sports anchor at KAIT-TV in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He also worked as the weekend sports anchor at WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Alabama.

In August 2013, Derek started here at 21 WFMJ and switched from sports to news to help launch WFMJ Weekend Today. During that time, he won numerous AP and Cleveland Press Awards and was nominated for an Emmy Award. 

In December of 2015, Derek succeeded Bob Black and joined Leslie Barrett on 21 News at 6 P.M. and 11 P.M. 

Derek and his wife, Kristie, have two boys, Bryce and Evan, and they call Cortland home. He also has two other sons who live in Alabama.

When he’s not working or spending time with his family, Derek loves to play sports. You can usually find him on a golf course in the summertime.
