Minerva man charged with deadly Mesopotamia crash

MESOPOTAMIA TWP., Ohio -

Twenty-five-year-old Gilbert Chaidez of Minerva was charged with vehicular homicide on Thursday morning after his involvement in a fatal accident in Mesopotamia. 

The accident, involving a log truck, took place on June 1. 

According to troopers, Gilbert Chaidez was driving a Honda CRV and stopped at the stop sign on State Route 534 and then pulled forward into the path of a log truck traveling along Route 87. 

The SUV was struck by the truck on the passenger side of the vehicle. According to troopers, the passenger in the SUV, identified as 28-year-old Lindsay Chaidez, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Chaidez was arraigned in the Newton Falls Municipal Court around 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

He is currently free on bond pending another hearing.
