CONNEAUT, Ohio -

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission is inviting the public on an annual trip to D-Day Conneaut next Friday.

D-Day Conneaut is one of America's premier living history events that provides a realistic reenactment of D-Day, June 6, 1944, and the largest reenactment of World War II.

The annual event is August 17 at Conneaut Township Park and brings more than 1,200 re-enactors from across the U.S. and Canada.

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission says more than 100 veterans and family members from the Valley are attending the trip to Conneaut.

The trip is free of charge.

According to D-Day Conneaut's website, the 250-yard-long beach and sloping adjacent terrain closely resemble Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.
