Mahoning Democrats and Republicans holding joint voting registration event

Posted: Updated:

Special elections across the U.S. were extremely close this week. Those races are expected to take the country's temperature before midterm elections, but November will be the true test to see where the country stands.

While the two parties seem to be split on just about everything, Mahoning County Democrats and Republicans are agreeing on at least one thing, people need to get out and vote.

Both parties are planning a joint drive-thru voter registration on Saturday at the McDonalds on Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Organizers say this event is not only to provide a convenient way for people to register to vote, but it also shows that voting is a non-partisan issue.

All you have to do is drive up to the Boardman McDonalds and you can register to vote without even leaving your car.

Democratic Party leader Dave Betras said this is a way to make sure that in November everyone is able to exercise their right to vote and get a say on who will represent them. Betras added, "Democracy is not a spectator sport. It requires all of us to get off the bench and get to the ballot box."

Republican Party Chairman, Mark Munroe, said, "Democrats and Republicans can find lots to disagree about, but when it comes to voting we are on the same page."

If you can't make it to the event, you can also register to vote on the Secretary of State's website.
