Injured Warren dog recovering at Animal Welfare League

Posted: Updated:

Five days after being found in Warren with a chain embedded in his skin, a dog named Zeus is recovering at the Animal Welfare League in Vienna.

These are the latest pictures of Zeus, taken Thursday morning. The shelter manager tells 21 News that Zeus is starting to warm up to the staff a little, showing signs that he is improving.

Zeus was taken into emergency surgery over the weekend to remove a metal chain that had been wrapped around his neck and become ingrown.

Animal Welfare League says the dog will stay in their custody until the investigation is complete. Humane agents are still looking into the case, with no updates as of Thursday.

Three other dogs were left on the property, which is why investigators say they will not reveal the location of the owners of the dogs.

In the city of Warren, if a dog is tethered the tether has to be at least 12 feet long. According to the group "Never Muzzled," who found Zeus on Saturday, his tether was around two feet long.
