PALMYRA TWP., Ohio -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the eastbound lanes of I-76 in Portage County opened again at around 6:30 am Wednesday after being closed for most of the morning.

At around 10 pm Tuesday, Troopers began detouring eastbound traffic around an accident in Palmyra Township, just east of State Route 225 near the Mahoning-Portage County line.

Troopers say a FedEx truck pulling double trailers struck a Chevy Impala as the truck was changing lanes, causing the rear trailer to overturn.

The tractor and first trailer stayed upright. All vehicles came to rest off the right side of the road.

The driver of the Chevy Impala, a 29-year-old Trumbull County woman, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by Palmyra EMS for medical treatment.  Her condition is currently unknown.

The overturned semi-trailer was hauling volatile chemicals.  Some chemicals were released when the trailer overturned.

The driver of the semi, a 43-year-old Massillon man, was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes.
