Dog warden investigates report of Austintown dog attack

Posted: Updated:

An Austintown woman walking her Golden Retriever tells police it was attacked by a neighbor's dog early Tuesday.

Officers were called to the area of Bainbridge Avenue and Staatz Drive at around 5:30 am after someone called 9-1-1 to report that a woman was screaming for help.

The woman told officers that the retriever had been attacked by a medium-sized brown and white mixed breed pit bull which then ran away.

Police say the owner of the retriever said she would take her dog to the emergency veterinary clinic for treatment of injuries described as cuts and bruises.

Officers found the owner of the other dog who told them that it broke loose from its tether outside her Bainbridge Avenue home.

Police found the dog near Ascot Court and the owner took it home.

Dave Nelson of the Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office told police he would decide if citations would be issued after investigating.
