Democrats talk trade at Struthers USW Local 9401

STRUTHERS, Ohio -

Local Democrats spent the afternoon talking trade in Struthers.

The news conference highlighted some of the differences between Senator Sherrod Brown and his challenger Jim Renacci when it comes to trade.

Keith King is the president of United Steel Workers Local 9401, which hosted the event. He says fair trade deals affect every one of his 445 members.

"I don't believe Ohio is a red state. I don't believe Ohio is a blue state. Ohio is the Buckeye State. We want job security, want great insurance, and we want fair trade practices," said King.

King says he's trying to encourage people to vote based on issues that affect their families, instead of voting along party lines.

Ohio Senator Joe Schiavoni spoke at the event, talking about why he feels fair trade policies should be a clear focus for workers in this November's election.

"Most people are underemployed. If we had the ability to work through issues and we protected our workers, I think we would be in a position where we could have quality jobs increasing in places like the Mahoning Valley," said Schiavoni.
