Employees at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown and warden Richard Bowen, Jr. closed out Breast Cancer Awareness month by presenting a check to the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley.

The $430 donation is in support of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center and will go towards Joanie's Promise.

Joanie's Promise allows anyone in the Valley in need of diagnostic breast services to have access to the best care available, regardless of their ability to pay.

The funds were raised by auctioning off 12 executive parking spots for the month of October. Employees with the winning bids paid to park in spots normally reserved for executives, which are closest to the entrance.

The reserved spots were covered with temporary signs with a pink ribbon and the name of the winning bidder.
