A Warren Police Officer rescued the owner of a home that caught fire early Wednesday.

The officer went inside the home to find the man who made the 9-1-1 call, saying a heating pad set fire to a mattress in a second-floor bedroom of the home at Wick Street SE and Central Parkway at around 3 am.

When fire crews got to the home, the flames had spread through much of the home's interior.

The Ohio Fire Marshal is still working to determine an official cause of the fire.

Fire officials earlier told 21 News that two people, including a police officer, were taken to the hospital, but later said no one was injured.

According to reports, there were 18 cats in the home.   Firefighters were trying to reach humane officials to care for the animals.
