Valley hunters checked nearly 500 white-tailed deer during Ohio's 2018 two-day deer-gun hunting season.

Trumbull County hunters harvested the most in the Valley with 226 white-tailed deer, followed by Columbiana County with 165, and Mahoning County with 104.

Hunters in the Buckeye state checked a total of 9,625 white-tailed deer last weekend, down from 14,115 last year.

Numbers across the Valley were all down this year also, Columbiana County by more than 200 from last years total of 367.

Hunters still have a chance to pursue deer this winter with muzzleloader season January 5 to 8 and archery season remaining open through February 3.

Additionally, for the first time, Ohio resident hunters have the option to purchase multiyear and lifetime licenses at wildohio.gov and at hundreds of participating agents throughout the state.
