Eastwood Mall job fair planned for looming layoffs in Lordstown

Posted: Updated:
NILES, Ohio -

As Valley leaders continue lobbying General Motors to bring a new product to its Lordstown plant, plans are in the works for an event to help the hundreds of workers who will be unemployed if that effort fails.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services says a Northeastern Ohio Job and Career Fair is being organized.

The goal of the event is to help people and their families affected by layoffs at GM Lordstown and subsidiary companies.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 12pm-4pm Eastwood Mall Center Concourse - Niles, Ohio

Those needing help updating their resume or preparing can visit OhioMeansJobs Trumbull County, OhioMeansJobs Mahoning and Columbiana Counties, or the GM Transition Center inside UAW 1112.

If efforts fail to convince GM to replace the Chevy Cruze with a new product at the Lordstown Assembly Plant, the 1,600 UAW members at the plant will be out of work in March, unless they are eligible to transfer to another GM plant.

In addition, 120 workers at Magna's Lordstown Seating systems, and 180 people at Comprehensive Logistics would be thrown out of work.

Both companies support Cruze production in Lordstown.
