Woman donates kidney to younger sister

WARREN, Ohio -

40-year-old Erica Lowery will be donating her kidney to her sister, 25-year-old Jasmine Johnson, who has kidney failure and is on dialysis to keep her alive.

"I love my sister, that's my baby sister," said Lowery. "She is awesome. Jasmine is a cheer coach. She loves everybody and she does everything for everybody. My sister has had juvenile diabetes since she was four years old. She has been on dialysis and has kidney failure so I am giving her my kidney."

A fundraiser was held for Johnson and Lowery Saturday afternoon at Kidz by the Riverside Daycare on Main Avenue S.W. in Warren.

Jasmine Johnson said, "It is really important. It's the gift of life so I appreciate her so much. We are waiting on a call from Cleveland Clinic to get a date for the surgeries. I am scared but I am so grateful for my family, friends, and the community's support. My sister will be out of work for about two months and so will I.I thank the people and businesses who provided the baskets for a raffle,  all who attending this fundraising dinner or who have donated to my go fund me account and to my sister Erica Lowery's cash app."

Giva Davis, a cousin who helped organize this fundraising dinner at the daycare where Lowery works, wanted to help raise money for bills, and travel to and from Cleveland. "We are raffling off baskets, the law director Greg Hicks donated some things here, and we have a big trip that was donated to us which includes 7 nights in Antigua. A nurse with with Rainbow Babies Children's Hospital in Cleveland donated the trip at the resort and spa," said Davis.

People and relatives like their great Uncle George Davis joined the girls line dancing in this celebration of life. Davis and his wife, along with people at the event say they are "team Jas and Erica".

"We support them physically, spiritually, mentally, and financially, so that is why we are here. We love them both dearly like family. Jasmine is my daughters cheer coach at Warren Middle School.  Erica and her daughters are majorettes with my daughter and they also cheer together. They are a wonderful family. Very giving. We have been long time friends," said Erica Davis.
