Icy weather delays schools in Mercer County

Posted: Updated:

Wintery weather is slowing traffic and delaying schools in Mercer County.

The county is part of a region under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 pm Tuesday.

Commuters face freezing rain with ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are expected.

Trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles are banned from Interstate 80 east of the I-79 interchange in Mercer County. In addition, speeds have been reduced on I-80 from Venango County eastward.

The National Weather Service says there could also be power outages caused by trees damaged by ice.

As of 5:30 am several schools in Mercer County had adjusted schedules due to the weather.

A list of school adjustments may be found here.
