$4 million Hermitage bridge replacement to start next month

Posted: Updated:
HERMITAGE, Pa. -

A portion of East State Street in Hermitage is scheduled to undergo construction starting next month.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says work to replace the East State Street bridge will begin April 1st, weather permitting.

PennDOT says that when construction at the bridge starts, the two eastbound lanes of East State Street will be closed in the area immediately west of the intersection with Wick Avenue, and eastbound traffic will be diverted onto one of the westbound lanes.

Work involves replacement of a 15-foot-long, structurally deficient bridge on East State Street over a branch of Pine Run. It will be replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert.

Traffic is expected to be limited to one lane in each direction using the westbound lanes from April 1 to June 14, 2019.

At that time, the westbound lanes will be closed and traffic will be diverted the eastbound lanes, again using one lane for each direction through August 7, 2019.

A Brookfield construction company, Kirlia Contractors, Inc. was awarded the $4 million contract for the work.

The project will be funded 80% by federal funds and 20% through state funding.

The Valley is in line for a Summer-like day to round out the weekend! Look for partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions with a high near 85; a stray thunderstorm is possible in the late afternoon with a better chance of scattered showers and storms after dark and overnight; some could contain gusty winds; low 64. Lingering showers Monday morning and mostly cloudy skies with a high near 70. Cooler still on Tuesday with plenty of sunshine but a high only in the mid to upper 60s. Warm...More >>
