YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

An Akron man is being held in the Mahoning County Jail awaiting a court hearing on allegations that he had sexual contact with a teen.

Gary Summerland, 79, was booked into the county jail Thursday on one felony charge of gross sexual imposition and one charge of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

According to an indictment handed down by the Mahoning County Grand Jury, Summerland had sexual contact with the teen from February 2016 through December of 2018.

The indictment alleges the juvenile was thirteen when the sexual contact began.

The alleged victim's "ability to resist or consent was substantially impaired because of a mental condition," according to the indictment.

Summerland, who is also accused of providing the teen with "obscene" material, is scheduled to answer the charges in court on Tuesday.
