Sheriff: Medical emergency may have led to boater's death

Posted: Updated:

COLLEGE CORNER, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say they believe a man who died when a boat he was in capsized on an Ohio lake might have experienced a medical emergency when he went into the water.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson said in a statement Wednesday that 65-year-old Jerald Parlett, of Miamisburg, died after the boat he was in with another man capsized on Acton Lake at Hueston Woods State Park.

Simpson said the men had been fishing from the small boat when it capsized Tuesday at the park about 50 miles (81 kilometers) northwest of Cincinnati. Other fishermen pulled them from the water.

Parlett was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the other man wasn't seriously injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate while awaiting the autopsy results.
