An Amazon Delivery Station is coming to North Jackson and is expected to open as early as June.

The second largest employer in the United States now plans to hire workers here in the Valley.  Exactly how many workers is unclear at this point.

The new station will be located at Commissioner Drive and DeBartolo in the Youngstown Commerce Park in North Jackson.

The North Jackson Delivery Station will be the fourth one opened by Amazon Logistics.

According to a news release from Amazon, the new station will power Amazon's last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in the North Jackson area.  The deliver stations will enable Amazon Logistics to supplement capacity and flexibility when it comes to delivery capabilities and in turn support the growing volume of customer orders.

Amazon expects that the new facility will create hundreds of work opportunities for small businesses and independent contractors by allowing them to be their own boss, and make $18 to $25 per hour delivering for Amazon.  To learn more, visit www.logistics.amazon.com.

21 News paid a visit to the site and noticed significant construction work being done that includes additional parking in the back of the building for employees.

The company has already advertised for four management positions on www.amazon.jobs.  Just put in North Jackson, Ohio in the location.

As electric crews and other construction crews prepare Amazon's North Jackson facility, the Youngstown/Warren Chamber of Commerce is excited that the international company has decided to lease space right here in the Mahoning Valley.

James Dignan, President, and CEO of the Youngstown/Warren Chamber of Commerce, "Well Amazon has been looking in our market for quite some time.  Part of their direct delivery setup is so you'll have the larger hubs then it will come here to North Jackson for direct delivery here in the market."

We inquired whether Amazon opening could mean business for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport by shipping in packages from other areas to Youngstown, but Dignan said not at this time.

According to the Lee Burdman of Redstone Investments in Liberty, who cut the deal to lease the property to Amazon,  the largest internet company in the world first looked at the property last summer.  The highway accessibility attracted Amazon.

The North Jackson facility once housed Federal Express and most recently BP.

We expect to hear more about Amazon putting down roots in North Jackson in the coming days and weeks.
