YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Thousands of people are expected to head into downtown Youngstown on Saturday for the fifth annual Federal Frenzy. 

The annual music and arts festival, hosted by Youngstown State University Penguin Productions, the city of Youngstown, and The Summit FM, kicks off Saturday, April 27th. 

The event, located on West Federal Street and Phelps Street in downtown Youngstown, is scheduled from 2 pm until 11 pm and is free and open to the public. 

"Federal Frenzy is five years strong and an established event in the Youngstown community. Over 6,000 people were in attendance last year, and the response we've received thus far in anticipation for Federal Frenzy 2019 is truly remarkable," said Federal Frenzy event lead, Megan Crees.

Several parking bans and street closures will be in effect for the festival, the first starting Thursday evening. 

According to event officials, a parking ban will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019, on West Federal Street from Wick Avenue to
Phelps Street and continue through 4:00 am on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Also, a parking ban will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019, on West Federal Street from Phelps Street to South Hazel Street and on Phelps Street from Commerce Street to West Boardman Street and continue through Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Beginning Friday, West Federal Street from Wick Avenue to Phelps Street will be closed. 

The PenPro Main Stage will feature LA-based electronic rock and roll musician Robert DeLong, who will headline the event with a dynamic musical and visual experience. 

Additional main stage acts include: 

  • Samfox, a soulful blues ensemble based out of Cleveland
  • Mourning [A] BLKstar,  creating soul, punk, astro-blk heart music
  • Spirit of the Bear, a Youngstown favorite with a unique blend of indie, pop, electric, and rock

Regional artists will also perform on the 330 Stage, sponsored by The Summit FM, a locally owned and operated member-supported public radio station. 

That lineup includes: 

  • The Shootouts, mixing traditional country with high-energy honky-tonk and hints of Americana
  • Sam Goodwill, a singer-songwriter creating engaging alternative and rock and roll music
  • The Dreemers, an Akron based garage soul and rock and roll trio. 

Additionally, a vendor marketplace, live art, and family-friendly activities will take place outdoors.

Indoors, a diverse selection of Youngstown State University affiliated student, faculty, staff, and alumni bands round out the Federal Frenzy lineup:

These acts will compete for the Listener's Choice Award presented courtesy of The Summit FM. 

Downtown venues hosting music and activities include The Federal, O'Donold's Irish Pub & Grill, Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, Lemon Grove, Whistle & Keg, and a brand new location: Rhine Haus.
