Trumbull County police agencies have new Special Response Vehicle

Posted: Updated:
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -

A government surplus military vehicle is now a Special Response Team vehicle for use by police in Niles, Weathersfield and McDonald.

The three police chiefs got their first up close look at the vehicle at a ceremony Tuesday.

The primary use of the vehicle is to transport the NPD Special Response Team to and from operations.

The vehicle would respond during an active shooter or barricaded suspect incident.

The vehicle can also be used for rescue operations during severe weather.

The armored vehicle was transformed by the Collision Center at Greenwood Chevrolet and graphics from Signworks.

"We want to thank Greenwood Chevy and Signworks for their generous donation of materials and labor to this project. It is encouraging to know that community partners support local law enforcement. This vehicle will help to keep our officers safe during a critical incident," said Niles Chief of Police Jay Holland.
