Simply Slavic baking contest held Saturday

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

The Simply Slavic Heritage Festival starts next week, but their baking contest took place Saturday in downtown Youngstown.

Bakers gathered at the SMARTS building in Youngstown to bake traditional Slavic desserts from different countries.

Many bakers used family recipes passed down through the years.

First place went to Mary Rogenski of North Jackson who made Rogoliki, while second place went to Anne Zagorec of Hubbard for her nut roll.

The third place winner was Nancy Gura of Poland who made cookies.

WFMJ Anchor Leslie Barrett was a judge at the event.
