YSU wins 3D-printer from national competition

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Youngstown State University joins two other universities as winners of a national research contest focused on additive manufacturing.

TRUMPF INC. will be lending each of the universities a Trumpf TruPrint 1000 3D printer for one year as winners of the competition.

The 3D printer is going to be used in two additive manufacturing courses currently offered by YSU, four research projects which are shared among faculty and other local researchers.

The printer will also be used to try and obtain funding from federal agencies such as NASA, the United States Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation.

TRUMPF INC. is the nations largest manufacturer of fabricating machinery asked universities and research institutions to outline specific research projects using the TruPrint 1000 3D printer as part of a contest.

Twenty-two applications were filed and reviewed by a panel of experts, and YSU was named one of the winners.
