Another Brookfield injection well is granted permit to operate

Posted: Updated:
BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio -

A group of Brookfield residents who are opposed to injection wells in the township is not pleased that another well has been granted a permit to begin injecting wastewater brine from drilling operations outside the area.

The permit order comes from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Oil and Gas Division.

The group called Brookfield Citizens Against Injection Wells already has an appeal pending to reverse an earlier permit for a well at the same site off State Route 7.

The citizens contend the wells pose a threat for earthquakes as well as environmental contamination.

ODNR says the wells are within the law, are closely monitored and do not jeopardize public health or safety.
