Project to rehabilitate 95-year-old Greene Twp. bridge beginning soon

Posted: Updated:
OIL CITY, Pa. -

A 95-year-old bridge in Greene Township is scheduled to undergo some rehabilitation work in the next couple of weeks.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said that the Mercer County bridge that carries Route 58 over Flaherty Run near the Shine Road intersection would have the top portion of the bridge removed and reconstructed.

PennDOT will also install a new concrete deck with a waterproofing membrane and new concrete box beams.

Guardrail updates and new concrete facing will also be added.

The release lists June 24 as the start date for the project, weather permitting. The listed completion date is September 20.

According to PennDOT, a detour using Route 322 and Route 18 will be posted.

The bridge was built in 1924 and widened in 1957.

The bridge has been classified as poor condition, and the repairs will cost $364,400 in state funds.
