Girls at dance studio ask why someone would steal from them?

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -

In Warren, at Innovation Dance Centre, girls practice dance routines and pirouettes for an upcoming competition. They have won regional and National Competitions and are just weeks away from a national competition in Virginia Beach which begins July 8. But someone stole a trailer that sat outside the dance studio that was filled with props and equipment.

Lexi Dillon said, "The props are very important. We put a lot of work into our dance and trying to figure out how to use them. We use them to help tell a story through dance."

Dana Sulonen, the manager, said, "We had a 10-foot long replica of the London Bridge that was massive that was taken, cute little candy shop doors, and risers that the dancers went in and out. There were big black boxes that we built as a platform. Our dance dads had made the props. We also had equipment in there. The trailer had been right outside the studio for five years without any problems. It is believed Monday between 3 pm and 7 pm someone stole the trailer."

Sulonen said, "This is a big deal to the kids. It's like the world series for them. They have worked very hard, and to have part of their dance routines taken away is wrong. If anyone sees the props on the side of the road, or in a dumpster, or anywhere we ask that they let us know. Some other dance studios have reached out and offered to help make new props. We don't know if new props will get done on time."

In addition to dance teaching the girls discipline, teamwork, confidence, and dedication, it has also taught them even with hardships the dance must go on!

Gabby Farmer said, "The props were really important to us, and the prop dads spent a lot of time making them for us. When we were really little our tap group when the music stopped, we kept going, and everyone was clapping at the end because we kept going. So whenever something happens, you got to keep going."

Sulonen added, "They were shocked and sad at first. Now they're saying we are going to do this. We're fighters, and we're going to keep going!"

If anyone sees the trailer or finds the props, please call Warren police department at 330-394-2521.
