Austintown police rewarding bike riders with helmets

Posted: Updated:
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -

The Austintown Police Department has partnered with the Austintown Optimist Club and Katie's Korner Homemade Ice Cream to encourage kids to stay safe this summer.

Not wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle is a major cause of serious injuries to both children and adults. For that reason, the groups have come together for the "Summer Bicycle Safety Helmet Campaign."

The campaign kicked off Thursday with a photo shoot at Katie's Korner on Kirk Road.

Austintown Police Officers will carry books of "Tasty Citations" and give them out to kids they see wearing a helmet while riding their bicycle.

The kids can exchange the "Tasty Citation's" for a free single cake cone of Katie's Korner Home Made Ice Cream as a way of rewarding them for being
properly attired.
