Toddlers found unattended in car in Warren

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -

A Warren woman appeared in court this week on a charge of child endangering after police say they found two toddlers alone in a van with the keys.

Shayla Harris, 26, entered a plea of not guilty on Monday and is scheduled to appear in court again in September.

According to a police report, they located the children in Harris' van in the Giant Eagle parking lot on Elm Road just after 6:30 pm on Saturday.

When police arrived, the toddlers said that they had been left in the vehicle while their family went into the store because they didn't have shoes on.

Police say they took the keys from the vehicle and waited with the children for five more minutes until Harris and three more kids came out of the store.

Harris told police she was unaware she had left the keys in the van, and they had been left in the van because they didn't have shoes on.

A witness told police that the toddlers had been alone for 25 minutes.
