NILES, Ohio -

Several police officers and firefighters were honored in Niles Wednesday night for their work in fighting a double fatal fire.

The fire occurred in May and claimed the lives of Brad Crist and his 15-year-old son Jacob Crist.

Investigators say there were reports of a loud boom before the fire broke out at the Scott Avenue home around 4:30 in the morning.

Two people survived the fire, Diane Crist and her 17-year-old daughter.

Extra crews had to be called out when dispatchers learned there were people inside the home.
