Art, music and cultural festivals going on in Youngstown this weekend

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

A weekend offering multiple events featuring arts, culture, and music is underway in Youngstown.

Events including the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Summerfest, the 21st annual YSU Summer Festival of the Arts, Youngstown Wine and Jazz and more are taking place at various points between Thursday and Sunday.

The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Summerfest got underway Thursday and offers live music and dancing, Greek food and pastries and a display of cultural memorabilia. That event takes place at 22 N. Walnut Street.

Hours for Friday and Saturday are from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and admission is free.

The 21st annual YSU Summer Festival of the Arts will be open Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at and around Youngstown State University.

The focal point of the event is the artists' marketplace, showcasing the work of over 85 local, regional and national artists selling original, hand-crafted pieces such as jewelry, paintings, sketches, sculptures, glass, wood, and textiles.

The event will also feature dozens of music, theater, and dance performances, and multiple YSU departments will have displays.

A jazz concert is taking place Saturday featuring Grammy award-winning guitarist Norman Brown.

Tickets for that event cost $10 each, and that concert will take place at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.

A Pipe Organ Crawl is taking place Saturday at 1:00 p.m. featuring short organ performances and a historical talk in Bliss Recital Hall, St. Columba Catholic Cathedral and St. John's Episcopal Church.

An exhibition celebrating the life and work of Youngstown native Marlene Aron runs through Saturday in Bliss Hall's Judith Rae Solomon Gallery. That event will be followed by a free reception that day from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A Mass Mob similar to a Cash Mob, where a business is selected to be supported through shopping, is being held at St. Columba Cathedral at 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Ladies' Day Out is also going on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Williamson College of Business Administration. The event is put on by the YSU Office of Alumni Engagement and features a speaker, brunch, and tours. Advance reservations for the event are required by emailing Catherine Cala at cacala@ysu.edu.
