NEW CASTLE, Pa. -

A vigil was held Monday night for an eight-year-old boy that was murdered in Union Township last week.

Hundreds of people gathered to honor Mark Mason.

Family members, friends, and neighbors were there to remember the young boy.

Police say it was his mother's boyfriend, Keith Burley that murdered Mason.

The crowd prayed together and let off a hundred red balloons, Mark's favorite color.

Each member of the crowd lit a candle and thought of Markie in a better place.

Mark's Uncle spoke to the crowd and thanked the community for their help in coping with the tragedy.
