Local autoworkers travel to Detroit for rally

Posted: Updated:
LORDSTOWN, Ohio -

Autoworkers who lost their jobs with the idling of General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant and their supporters left for Detroit early Tuesday for a rally in a show of support for their union bargainers.

Two buses left the Lordstown High School parking lot at around 5 a.m. accompanied by those traveling in cars and trucks to GM's headquarters at Detroit's Renaissance Center.

UAW Local 1112 leaders say the rally will be a show of support for union leaders as bargaining gets underway on a new contract with GM.

Those taking part are wearing red UAW tee shirts with the names of union leaders on the back.

As those talks begin, hundreds of workers and their families are hoping their union will make the push to bring a new product to the idled GM plant in Lordstown.
