BAZETTA TWP., Ohio -

A mom from Niles died Monday after apparently drowning while trying to save the life of a child at Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County.

Christine Beheler, who according to authorities turned 41-years-old on Monday,  was pronounced dead after she was taken to a hospital late Monday afternoon.

"Christine was a loving mother; she leaves behind four young children. Her twin boys played with my son," said Becky Rich, who was a neighbor of Beheler.

Officials tell 21 News a 12-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital after nearly drowning. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the boy has been released from the hospital.

Police say the two were part of a group who came to the beach for a picnic and got into trouble when the boy swam out beyond the marker buoys.

Witnesses told police Beheler, and several others went out into the lake to save the boy, but she was overwhelmed and nearly drowned.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation.
