Trial set for Liverpool woman accused of housing dogs in bad conditions

Posted: Updated:
EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -

A trial has been set for an East Liverpool woman who is accused of interfering with proceedings to condemn a home and rescue several dogs and cats.

Dorothy Eddy was arrested back in April after officials went to remove the animals from the home, which was described as having "horrendous" conditions.

Columbiana County's Deputy Dog Warden Jessica Gordon says nine dogs were removed from the home. Angels for Animals also took an unknown number of cats.

Gordon says the animals were using the house as a bathroom and the dogs were found with skin infections, fleas and scabbing.

According to the April police report, the dog warden was attempting to remove the dogs from the home when Eddy allegedly lied about how many there were. She's also accused of locking the house so officials couldn't get in.

Police said a family member unlocked the door to the home, but Eddy placed herself in the doorway and tried to close the door again.

The report stated an officer grabbed Eddy by the arm and tried to move her away, but she reportedly struggled against the officer and was arrested.

Eddy is now facing a prohibition concerning companion animals charge, a 2nd-degree misdemeanor.

On July 16, a not guilty plea was entered.

Her trial is set for September 17.

Gordon says all of the dogs have been adopted from the incident except for two.
