No financial help expected from state or FEMA for Kinsman flood victims

Posted: Updated:
KINSMAN, Ohio -

21 News has learned that at this time there won't be any state or federal help for those homes ravaged by last month's flooding in Kinsman.

Kinsman did not meet the criteria set-up by the state and FEMA to qualify for emergency financial help for its residents.

That news may be hard to swallow, especially when you look back at the dramatic images captured of the rushing water that wiped out a bridge, leaving many homes isolated on an island in the area of Lakeview Drive near Golf Drive.

More than 60 families were evacuated back on July 20th, and many still have not been able to return to their homes.

The state and FEMA require at least 25 homes to be labeled as destroyed or suffering from significant damage.

Kayla Grizer is the Deputy Director for Trumbull County Emergency Management, "One of the biggest things is the hot water tanks and their furnaces.  That's the biggest issue we're trying to get fixed fast -- because as you know, winter is coming."

Trumbull Emergency Management says it continues efforts to reach out to local agencies to find help for the victims of the flooding in Kinsman.

A meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 15th at 6 p.m.at the Kinsman Township Administration Building.

From what we're told, there is expected to be an update on the road, and how soon some of those residents can get back to their homes.
