'Kandy' cantaloupes recalled over Salmonella concerns

A cantaloupe brand sold in Ohio has been recalled over potential Salmonella contamination.

Eagle Produce LLC has issued a voluntary recall of 6,456 cases of whole 'Kandy' cantaloupes. Testing showed the melons could be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to the FDA, Salmonella poses a risk to humans who may consume the affected product.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection in a human includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. The bacteria can also cause more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

There have been no reported illnesses connected to the cantaloupes so far.

Those who have purchased a Kandy cantaloupe should throw it away, and contact Eagle Produce LLC for further information at 1-800-627-8674.
