Poland Library closed Monday as architect investigates structural concerns

Posted: Updated:
POLAND, Ohio -

The Public Library in Poland is closed on Monday as an architect looks into structural concerns at the building.

According to a news release from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, a full external and structural evaluation of the building was warranted and preliminary analysis confirmed some movement at the south end of the building's first floor.

The Library says ensuring the safety and stability of its facilities is its priority and steps are being taken to assess the situation.

A geotechnical engineering firm will conduct a surface investigation on the causes of the movement and give recommendations on the best way to fix the issue.

The Poland Library will be closed during the investigation on Monday, July 22.

The Public Library hired BSHM Architects in Youngstown to help with the project. BSHM Architects has retained Seidler Engineering as a consultant on the project.

Seidler Engineering found that the building's structural integrity is intact and that the building is safe to continue to use.
